OZBURG Fire Brigade Standard Operating Procedure: RADIOS: Radio communication is one of the most vital parts of the fire ground, it is what controls the incident(s) so knowing and understanding how to use the radio is a MUST. Usually the Incident Controller/OIC (Officer In Charge) will be in-control of the radio. Although knowing and understanding how to use a radio is REQUIRED. You never know when you might need to use it. -TURNING OUT MESSAGE INFORMATION Turning out/Responding Message is used to tell the dispatcher/Other Brigades that you have received the call and are responding. -TURN OUT MESSAGE EXAMPLE Example: (OZBURG Urban Pumper): OZBURG Urban Pumper *PAUSE* (Dispatcher) OZBURG Urban Pumper *PAUSE* (UZBURG Urban Pumper) OZBURG Urban Pumper turning out to a Structure Fire at the corner of 1st Street and 2nd Street Code 1 *PAUSE* (Dispatcher) Roger that OZBURG Urban Pumper *Dispatcher may or may not give you a further (Further information on the call) depending on if caller has valuable information that would help the crew of firefighters plan whilst on route.* -ON SCENE MESSAGE INFORMATION A on scene message informs the dispatcher that you have made it on scene and that you're now handling the situation. -TURN OUT MESSAGE EXAMPLE Example: (OZBURG Urban Pumper) OZBURG Urban Pumper is now on scene. (Dispatcher) Roger that OZBURG Urban Pumper. -SIT REP/MESSAGE INFORMATION SIT REP also known as Situation Report is to tell the dispatcher if the incident is now safe or requires additional appliances to the incident and sometimes has a message to follow that message could be asking for more appliances or telling the appliances on route to proceed Code 3 (No Lights or Siren). -RETURNING TO STATION/MAKING YOURSELF AVAILABLE FOR CALLS Telling the dispatcher you're available for calls and that you're leaving the scene. -RETURNING TO STATION/MAKING YOURSELF AVAILABLE EXAMPLE Example: (OZBURG Urban Pumper) OZBURG Urban Pumper returning and available.
